Train dreams seem to subside; does it mean Terminus, I wonder... But the whirring mind never stops. That's what it produced last night :
I am serving at St Georges, there is a large crowd of people at the altar and in the assembly, it is a special occasion, the altar is very well lit. For some reason, I am not at my usual place (went on an errand? do not quite remember), and I am not wearing my alb.
I know we acolytes must soon pick up the candles and return to the sacristy as we usually do at the end of the Mass. I hesitate – will I have enough time to put on the alb and get back to the altar?
I decide to give it a try; go to the sacristy and start putting on my alb; but in a hurry, put it on the other way round (back on the front), and find myself caught in its folds.
Woke up to a blasting headache, feeling that I didn’t make it to the altar after all.
NB : two sources in waking life can be identified. Yesterday during the Mass, a sidesman asked me if I would like to bring an element to the altar; I said "Yes of course"; he was supposed to give me a shout when I had to go, but for some reason did not. He apologized later and said that he didn't see me in the crowd, that's why he picked up someone else. Also, I had a conversation about liturgy yesterday night; remember saying that the church was well lit, among other things.
gosh! And JJ and I both woke with blasting headaches this morning! Could it be that we too were twisted in our robes? Or could it be the sudden arrival of spring? A crow flew over me today proudly carrying a huge twig for his nest and the cranes fly pver in their hundreds quitting Africa for their mating grounds in the wet-lands of Northern Europe and Russia; a great V of them passed straight over my head low enough for me to see their plumage - a magnificent sight! Back to the dream M, at least you didn't find yourself naked at the altar (I've had dreams like that has anyone else?) which means a Jungian interpretation (rather than Freudian) is at least possible! :-) Perhaps you have a task you feel you should fulfil but you feel you're not prepared for it or you're getting caught up in the detail, in the stuff of it, which might or might not be relevant (after all, are bloody orbs really necessary to worship God - unless you're a Druid that is?)- then the fact you put it on back to front is very interesting - going backwards? Confused priorities? I remember trying to tell Sonia (the real one ;-)) my dreams when doing spiritual direction with her and she didn't want to know at all saying they were not relevant to spiritual direction. But they so bloody well are! bisous to everyone
ReplyDeleteHello all from the Southlands. This is an interesting dream - they so often are anxious things about not doing something we are called on to do. I haven't had dreams of nakedness at the altar thankfully, although I suppose it is because nakedness and church don't really belong together in my mind (too damn cold for one thing). I agree about the back to front wearing being significant - that you have done what was required but it has not ended up satisfying the requirements precisely. I suppose it is because of the confusion you experienced in reality and you were anxious about that in retrospect. Probably we should just say 'I did my best' and leave it at that.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of dreams, I had an extraordinary one the other night. It was one of your train dreams, Marianna, so perhaps I am dreaming your dreams now. Are you having any dreams about godless shopping malls in return? My dream involved knowing I had a train to catch and being a long way away from the station and knowing time was fast running out, but instead of panicking and not making it, I was met at the station with my luggage and caught the train in plenty of time. So NOTHING WENT WRONG! This is extraordinary as I have never had a dream where it resolved without tension. I woke up and thought there must be something wrong...
Hey that's a great dream Richard. Basically it means that subconsciously you understand that everything is going to work out just fine for you.
